Day 20

May the 4th be with you!  

At 6:30 pm we are anchored off the southeast shore of Fishermen's Island, right next to the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel.  There are dolphins everywhere and even saw a pelican here. 🐬🐬🐬🐬🐬🐬

We left Coinjock around 8am and traveled the next leg of our trip.  Skies were overcast, 68º, winds SE 3-5 mph and we were riding into the current for most of the day. 
Big surprise as we were traveling, our neighbors from Mariner Cay Marina in Florida went by us in the opposite direction. They laid on the horn and at first we didn't know who they were. They had just bought and picked up their new boat in Delaware and were headed back to Florida. So excited to see them, we both turned our boats around to say hi and admire their new one. Overwhelming sights to see again!

We went under a plethora of bridges, some open on demand, some every hour and a few every 1/2 hour. 🌉 We ended up converging with many boats in a traffic jam waiting and timing the openings. 

We all are entering the only lock we had to go through. The Great Bridge Lock on the southern branch 

of the Elizabeth River

This was a different way from coming down. 

We went through the Dismal Swamp and went through the Chesapeake to get to Taylors Island, where Kenny's family live and visited them. So glad we did that!  

It was a long day, 9.5 hours, 80 miles and we are out of pages in the Flipbook of the ICW that went from Miami to Norfolk. 

Tomorrow we are ocean bound, bright and early, as we head to Ocean City, MD, 95 miles/ 83 nautical. This will be the longest distance outside in our trek home.  10 hour day! 

It's 8:00 and we are moving;  just too rolly at this location. We have to find our own anchorages now because we are off the charts.🤞
