We are back up to speed and heading for Portsmouth, Virginia, which is a little south of Norfolk. Not sure how long we will be there due to all weather concerns.π³
The conditions now are in our favor; 1' seas, wind out of the NE, blowing 8mph. (That's nothing). Another recipe for smooth sailingπ¬Traveling at 10ish mph, we should arrive around 4:30. Days are longer! ππ
As you know, Dad(Ken) grew up on the Chesapeake in MD. Didn't know that it's the largest Estuary in the USA!π It looks the same as the ocean, vast and endless. Lots of fishing boats out today along the horizon; hear there's a $300,000 Striper Tournament!! WOW!
We ate cheesesteaks in NJ, crabs and crab cakes in MD., so what do they east in Va.?
These container barges are so close. The bottom one overtook us and sent Serenity rocking in 12 ' trenches. Everything that wasn't secure went flying, including Stella. She landed on all 4's and jumped right back up on her perch(sofa) .
So much action going on as we approach Newport News and Norfolk VA. At the Naval Base several battleships sit in 'mothballs', a large aircraft carrier in action with helicopters and planes taking off and landing. One is the Eisenhower and the other the Arlington.

These planes looked liked drones as they flew towards us. There were 3 of them! And so many large ships going by us in both directions, a little intimidating! Everyone overtakes us! π’π£π€πΎ
and I thought Portland's harbor was busy? π

At 4:00 we were docked in Portsmouth, Virginia. This marina is huge and busy. Upon checking in we received a folder with brochure of Marina, Welcome Letter, Old Towne Visitor Guide. etc. That's a first!
Chilly 40ΒΊ.
After walking Stella, hosing Serenity off π° (the water is still turned on here) and other boating chores we are ready to step out to the local Pub.πΊπ»
⛈⛈⛈⛈ππThinking we might be stuck here for a couple days due to incoming nasty weather. We get great reception here though, which is great; we will watch the Pats clobber the Dolphinsπ¬tomorrow, Sorry Woodster!π
Later
