We anchored for the night in the Alligator River; there are no π's here! Very nice evening and uneventful.π
Headed down river at 7 this am , this was our view at sunrise.
So calm and smooth!
From the river we entered the canal with a channel that has little wiggle room.
This again is all part of the ICW. The ride was beautiful, even sat topside for a while. As we were traveling the canal a large barge approached us head on and we adjusted by moving over a bit so as not to be in their way and be polite. Never saw it but we ran over, what was likely, a large stump underwater which felt like we ran aground. Serenity lurched every whichaway then back on track. A major vibration was felt immediately by us both.
After calling BoatUS we were directed to a boat yard a few hours ahead, traveled at 5 mph on one screw and we made it.
They suspended our boat in the air and assessed the damage . The good news is the hull is fine, but did a number to the propeller, shaft and rudder π©
It's hillbilly heaven here in Belhaven NC (never heard of it) and we have to stay here at least a WEEK or more. Guess it's all part of the journey, right?
We will be staying on the boat; that's a good thing.
Stay Tunedπ
Come to find out, that due to several hurricanes, the canal and entering rivers have stumps and debris that have been damaging lots of boats. You certainly don't see these objects on GPS or even radar. This boatyard has a few boats with extensive damage to the hull etc. They all came from the same body of water as we did. And they are in line before usπ
These boatyard guys are use to this; it's how they survive in these parts. π‘π‘π‘ Can you tell I'm ANGRY.
But I'm also thankful that we didn't do more damage and that we can stay here for how ever long it takesππ
Those damn propellers are always in the way!! Don’t be walking Stella alone down there. How’s the weather??
ReplyDeleteRight? Kenny can’t complain about the dinghy prop anymore. π it’s REALLY sketchy is these them hills π
