Day 39

6:00 AM and we are off for our final leg of this incredible adventure. It's a chilly morning, of course, 53ΒΊ with wind 5-6 mph SW!!!!!  Finally, following seas!  πŸ›₯🌬 There is a small craft warning for this afternoon here in Mass. Overcast with 20% chance of rain. Portland looks about the same with no wind and no warnings!  Yippee!

9:00 am and we are just leaving Rye, NH Dock for fuel. This was a navigational challenge to say the least. The narrow gateway was surrounded by rock walls and chucker full of various sizes of mooring balls, and boats ⛴⛵🚣🚀. The dock itself  had a few large touring ships in place which left us little room for mobility.  Captain Ken maneuvered Serenity like a Pro; unfreaking believable!πŸ’ I need a drink, lol 😬

We are back at it with 55 more miles to go.  The sun is out, the seas are calm and we are taking it all in. πŸ™πŸ™

12:15 and we are so close.

We are the blue dot
The winds have picked up to 12 mph and the waves  are now 3-4' with an occasional  rogue 5 footer just to keep us on our toes!
We are making great time with the following seas coming off our starboard stern making us wiggle.

2:30 and we are home at our spot at Sunset Marina.

Portland LightHouse is always a welcome sight!

Thanks for Following Along!
Until next time...😍😎⚓

Day 38

I know this is redundant but we are still here in Newburyport.
🌞Sun all around,  breezy and chilly on the water, but not in town.

We walked all morning with Stella, downtown and along the harbor.  Very quaint and quite old with beautiful brick buildings edging the roads.

At 2:00 we are back on the boat where the wind and strong current wait for us, sun too!!

Just chilling for the afternoon and getting ready for our final exodus to Portland tomorrow. Bittersweet!🍫😏😎😍

Weather is looking good with following seas, from the south. duh

Tomorrow will be my final entry and to tell you the truth I'm going to miss this too. Journaling/blogging has been a very cathartic experience for me.

Talk to you tomorrowπŸ™πŸ˜¬

Day 37

Still stuck in Newburyport for at least  2 more days πŸ™ˆ
We have been lucky with the weather so far, until we got here.
Currently 59ΒΊ, mostly cloudy⛅, wind WNW 19 mph with gusts
 25🎏waves 5-7'🌊🌊🌬.
Doing quite a bit of rocking even though we are tied-up! The current here (Merrimack River) is very strong, making the water slap the sides of the boat constantly!

So, like yesterday we are working inside the boat, cleaning and fixing, gaming, fishing and reading. Can't seem to find WiFi so can't watch movies.
Leave it to Beaver, Hazel, Wagon Train, Matlock, My Three Sons. That's our line upπŸ˜‚early morning.πŸ“Ί

Probs walk into town later today, which is about 1/2 mile away.

At 8:00 we are making dinner, burgers and salad. Never walked into town as it was so blustery.  Walked Stella and she was almost blown off the dock; thank goodness I had her leashed.

Tomorrow doesn't look much better so our target day is Thursday.🀞
TTYT 😘

Day 36

The wind and waves are keeping us in Newburyport for a few days. We are so close, 8 hours away from Portland, yet we are socked in. πŸ™ˆ 72ΒΊ, 80% precipitation, wind 13/20 SW, not too bad, but the seas are too rough with 4 second waves! So we wait!

Not sure who reads this but would love to hear from you. 😻

Stay Tuned

Day 35

Last night we stayed up late, for us, 10:30, sitting on  a sailboat docked next to us with a young couple from New Orleans that just bought the sailboat in New Hampshire. They both quit their jobs and are sailing back down south, to the Keys and then back to New Orleans by August (before hurricane season)
We shared some knowledge about the trek and had a great time chatting with them. Fair winds and following seas to James and Victoria, keep us posted.😎

Today we are heading out early as there is some weather coming our way. Currently it's a chilly 54ΒΊ,  winds S 10mph and increasing throughout the day. We have nothing but ocean ahead of us, so for now looks like following seas but not fair winds. No rain though.
7:00am we are underway.

It is now 12:30 and we are in some very rough seas!!! Winds are 14 knots coming off our port and rocking us side to side;  chop is 2-3 feet, swells 3-5'.  Very gloomy out and chilly. Welcome to New England!  Looks like the seas will calm down once we get past Glouster, another 4 miles.  Hoping to make Newburyport for the night

At 3:30 the sun came out as we pulled into Newburyport Marina, with Kevin and Eileen waiting for us and helping to tie up.
Thank goodness, cause it was a shit show with heavy currents and the wind against us.  Kev and Eileen are the folks we bought our first boat from, Kuleana Kai (not Kunta Kinte Paulie!)  πŸ˜‚
We love getting together and sharing boat stories.  Had a couple beers at the Marina and going to have dinner with them later.

All good in the hood as we get close to the end of this incredible journey!
Portland tomorrow!πŸ˜‚πŸ˜’πŸ˜ŽπŸ˜’πŸ˜πŸ˜’πŸ™

Day 34

We made so much progress the last couple days that we are taking it easy this AM. At 9:30, Kenny is walking Stella and I am making breakfast ☕πŸ₯šafter I enter this!
It is sunny out here in Point Judith with not a cloud in the sky🌞 66ΒΊ, 0% precipitation, wind 6 mph ENE. Not a big deal because we will be traveling up thru the Cap Code Canal, via Block Island Sound, Rhode Island Sound, Buzzards Bay. Sounds good,πŸ˜‚

A friend wanted to see pics of the inside of Serenity, so here are a few:

HOME

Head is small but with this panoramic shot it looks huge; toilet, sink, shower

TOPSIDE

It's now 11:00 and we are shoving off! Gettin fuel first⛽

This is the entrance to the CCC

We arrived at SandwichπŸ₯ͺ HAHAHA Sandwich Mass. which is at the end of the Cape Cod Canal around 6.  Great day on the water!  This place is huge and pricey, had to walk a mile to their laundry room.
It's now 8:30 making dinner and folding laundry, then night,
Until tomorrow😚

Day 33

The Captain had me up at 6:30 this AM;  make hay while the sun shines!  It is 62ΒΊ with a high in this area of 73ΒΊ, partly cloudy, SW winds 3 mph.  Long Island Sound is calm and fairly quiet, nothing like yesterday.
This was my view this morn. Mill Neck NY

Captain Ken is topside at the helm, while Stella and I are having coffee and straightening up the cabin.  It's going to be a long day as we are hoping to make it to a Marina in Rhode Island.  We have a faulty switch on the generator 😑 so it is difficult to Anchor for the night;  possible though?

It is now 4:00 and we are still underway and are now in Block Island Sound, outside Fishers Island. It was warm out with a cool breeze as we were topside all morning while still in Long Is. Sd.    We were in a huge body of water with nothing around us, except an occasional boat going by.  Now in BIS we can see land off of our port side.

As we approached Fishers Island on our port, with limited visibility,  Captain noticed ahead of us, what looked like a sandbar, where breakers were folding over themselves.
In reality we were entering what's known as The Race.  The body of water off Fishers Is. goes from 30' to 300' causing the water to heave up beneath us violently, creating 5' swells in every single direction coming at us. Add to that a 4 knot tidal flow and you have a Coney Island rollercoaster ride!  πŸŽ’🎒🎒🎒🎒The elevation of the water literally rose up 2 feet in front of the boat! Kenny said he had NEVER experienced anything like it!

have to stop because I'm getting nauseous

At 7:00 we are docked at Point Judith Marina, Narragansett, RI.  Walked Stella, took a hot shower and getting ready to make dinner.
Need I say we are all pooped!
No more warm weather for a while, I'm afraid 😎
